Altec Corporation, the licensee ofUS-based Werner Group in India since 1990, is scouting for distributors across the country. Revealing expansion plans, M P Raju (mpraju@altecindia.com), deputy manager – sales & marketing, says, “We are planning to expand our dealer base across India.” At present, the company has an existing base of more than 100 dealers. “Our main aim is to become the leading supplier in the climbingequipment market and develop its overseas markets as well. Our specialties are aluminum extrusions and fibreglass pultrusions as well as high quality fabricated parts,” he adds.

The company already has a strong presence in south India and is targeting the northern region actively. Talking aboutdealer requirements, he explains what qualities he is looking for in a prospective dealer. “Ideallya dealer must have an existing presence in the hardware market in either the industrial or domestic segment. And he must be ready to invest approximately`5 lakh to begin with, for space anddisplay of products.” The company provides complete merchandisingmaterial to the dealers along withmarketing support. Dealers enjoy a 30-35% trade margin.

Altec is Werner Group’s sole distributor in the Indian sub-continent and Middle East. The company’s Hyderabad-based manufacturing unit has a capacity of over 1,000 ladders per day andaround 10,000 per month. “We have over 5,000 dies and moulds, to make international quality ladder parts and componentsin our world-class aluminium extrusion plant dedicated to ladder-making,”Raju beams.

Altec-Werner caters to commercial, domestic and industrial segments, and also provides customised products along with accessories to support its aluminium ladders, climbing and scaffolding systems. The products are used by the defence, hospitality, telecom and IT sectors. They are also used in banks and the petroleum industry.

Throwing light on the salient features of the products, he says, “Though our ladders are light, they are sturdy and safe. Our collaboration with Werner has brought with it the company’s 80-year-old experience in makingquality climbing systems.” Wernerproducts meet all applicable American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration Code (OSHA) requirements.
